URP presidential aspirant William Ruto has pledged to unite all marginalised communities to vote as a block in the next General Election.
Speaking in Bura town during a two-day tour of Tana River County, the Eldoret North MP said that his government will ensure there is food security, minimise tribal conflicts and alleviate the perennial water shortages that have characterised arid areas.

Mr Ruto, who was accompanied by six MPs allied to his party, pledged to construct dams and harness water from rivers Tana and Dawa in Ethiopia for the expansion of agricultural and livestock activities.
The MPs appealed to the Pokomo, Orma and Wardei communities to maintain peace during campaigns for elections.
URP national chairman Francis Kaparo urged the communities to concentrate on development programmes that will improve their lives.
Speaking in Bura, he said that the country will change once all pastoral communities vote as a block.
MPs Adan Duale (Dujis), Chachu Ganya (North Horr), Kazungu Kambi (Kaloleni), Nuhu Nassir (Bura) and former South Mugirango Omingo Magara criticised the two principals for neglecting residents in arid regions while concentrating on areas already endowed with resources.

“We are tired of proverbs from Prime Minister Raila Odinga. He should pack and go,” said Mr Duale.
The party promised to ensure that most resources are diverted to arid areas through the devolved government.
Among other projects they pledged to revive are the multi-million shilling Hola and Bura irrigation schemes, Tana Athi Development Project in Garsen and repair of the Malindi - Garissa road.
