Eyes are trained on Prime Minister Raila Odinga and the close
associates after his former advisor on coalition affairs Miguna allegedly
spilled secrets and accused him and the office of tolerating graft.
Raila has remained tight-lipped and his office too has declined to
respond to the allegations which have soiled the office and top allies alike.
By the time of filing this report all
indications were that the office of the Prime Minister was not keen on engaging
Miguna Miguna through rebuttals.
For political rivals, Miguna Miguna has provided
fodder for attacks on the personality of the PM and close allies who now
rubbish Raila’s claims to champion reforms if elected president.
Already, Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka
challenged Raila to come clean on the graft allegations as Eldoret North MP questioned
reform credentials of the PM following the peeling of Miguna Miguna’s secrets.
In his memoirs entitled Peeling Back the Mask: A
Quest for Justice after
working for paltry three years in a public office, Miguna Miguna recounts some
the happenings he witnessed while serving Raila, a move that has peppered his
relations with top aides of the PM whom he shared office with.
In scathing attacks Miguna Miguna has reignited
debates on the Maize import scandal which he feared would swallow Raila and his
office. He describes the office to have been a swamp of graft and delves
into political wrangles that mushroomed at the time her served.
Said a senior officer at the PM’s office who
requested not to be quoted: “There is an author who wrote about Richard Leakey
calling him master of deceit but the book never flew nor sold.”
“I do not think the PM is keen on responding to
wild allegations from a former junior officer or would like to lower himself to
arguing with the author,” the official said.
A section of junior workers who served under
Miguna Miguna at his NHIF office say given a second chance they would rather
quit than work for the lawyer.
Among the allegations peeled to the public by
Miguna Miguna is the story of Lands minister and Ugenya MP James Orengo who is
accused of lavish spending enjoying shopping sprees and buying suits worth over
Sh 500,000.
The book is yet to hit the shelves as sections
of it are serialised in local daily.
