Information minister Samwel Poghisio was yesterday stranded for two hours at Chepareria in West pokot county when River Lyon burst its banks and flooded. Poghisio was heading to Miskwony to attend a public baraza. The minister and other guest who had accompanied him were forced to stop at the river for two hours to wait the waters to subside.
However, he call off the journey. Heavy rains that have pounded the county in the past two months have forced many rivers to burst and cut road net work in the area. Business fraternity are also not speared they are incurring losses since they are forced to be locked up in one locality with their goods. One of the businessmen from Alale Mark Lomunakol said businessmen who are mostly affected in the county are those dealing with perishable goods. “They buy goods form Makutano town but the goods get spoiled on the way before arriving their destinations since the roads are impassable,” he said. Lomunakol appealed to government and well wishers to set up bridges on major roads in the county to save the business community from incurring losses.
