ODM rules due for change

Presidential aspirants hit the campaign trail on Friday as ODM party’s top organs meet to amend its controversial election rules.
Prime Minister Raila Odinga will attend the party’s National Governing Council meeting at Orange House in Nairobi to change the nomination and election rules which guaranteed him an automatic presidential ticket.
A dispatch from the Orange House on Thursday evening stated that the NGC meeting would bring together Mr Odinga, the party’s MPs, members of the National Executive Council, party chairpersons in the counties and members of standing committees at the Bomas of Kenya.
As ODM adopts the changes which have been the centre of debate in the party, deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi, Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka, and MPs William Ruto (Eldoret North) and Mutava Musyimi (Gachoka) will be holding rallies across the country to popularise their State House bids.
Narc Kenya’s presidential hopeful Martha Karua will be away from the campaign trail, staging a Sh10,000-a-plate dinner at the Carnivore Restaurant in Nairobi.
Deputy PM Uhuru Kenyatta of The National Alliance, had not by Thursday evening, indicated whether he will take a break this weekend from the rigorous campaign trail.
Will pitch tent
On his part, Mr Mudavadi of the United Democratic Forum (UDF), who joined Muslims on Thursday during the Iftar (breaking the fast) in Mombasa, will pitch tent in the South Rift to rally voters behind his presidential bid.

Mr Mudavadi will on Friday hold meetings with opinion leaders in Kericho County ahead of a rally at Sosiot Stadium with a stopover at Kapsoit.
On Saturday, he will move to the neighbouring Bomet County, hold a leaders’ meeting in the town and then address a rally at Silibwet Stadium.
On Sunday, he will attend Mass at Roret Catholic Church in Bureti. He will be in Nyandarua on Monday.
Mr Musyoka embarks on campaigns in West Pokot and Trans Nzoia counties today with a series of events lined up.
The Wiper Movement Party presidential aspirant will on Friday meet leaders in Kapenguria Town before proceeding to lay the foundation stone for prisons staff houses.
The VP will also open the laboratory block at Chewoyet High School and end the day by holding a rally at Makutano Stadium.
On Saturday, he will move to the neighbouring Trans Nzoia County where he will hold a leaders’ meeting in Endebbes and a public rally in Kitale Town. On Sunday, he will attend a Service at Africa Inland Church Chemadich in Kitale.
Mr Ruto, the United Republican Party torch bearer will also campaign in Trans Nzoia today, holding rallies in Cherangany and Kwanza constituencies.
On Saturday he woos voters in Teso and Mt Elgon constituencies. On Sunday, he will attended a church service in Kisumu Town and then proceed to Trans Mara for a rally. On Monday, he will fly to Meru County for a leaders’ meeting.
The Party of Action presidential aspirant, Mr Raphael Tuju, will hold a series of events in Nairobi’s Githurai estate.
