Ngilu wants schoolgirls to wear trousers

Tuesday July 24, 2012-Water Minister Charity Ngilu has added a new twist to the miniskirt debate, after she suggested that trousers be introduced to schoolgirls instead of miniskirts.

Addressing School heads in her Kitui Central Constituency on Monday, Ngilu said trousers are more presentable to schools girls than miniskirts.

“Wearing skirts for schoolgirls is not the best. They should be allowed to put long trousers as they are more ideal,” Ngilu said.

The Minister said a trouser will be less controversial.

Ngilu’s remarks were echoed by Kitui Kenya National Union of Teachers branch secretary Joseph Mukuthu who said trousers are more comfortable than shorter skirts.

The miniskirt controversy has generated a heated debate with many Kenyans requesting Education Minister Mutula Kilonzo to resign over his utterances that school girls be allowed to wear miniskirts.
