Mwakwere in more TROUBLE as Tobiko agrees

Mwakwere in more TROUBLE as Tobiko agrees

Friday, the 27th of July 2012 - News just in indicates that the Director of Public Prosecution Keriako Tobiko has given the green light for Environment Minister Chirau Ali Mwakwere to face hate speech charges brought against him by the Mzalendo Kibunja-led National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC).

This news comes just hours after the High Court in Nairobi dismissed Mwakwere’s petition to have the commission blocked from putting him on trial. Justice David Majanja said that the MP cannot block either the DPP or the NCIC from performing their constitutional responsibilities.

Now, in a move that is sure to get a lot of lose-mouthed politicians to prick up their ears, the DPP has said his office has ample evidence to bring a case against the Matuga MP;

“The DPP, being satisfied that there is sufficient evidence to sustain charges recommended by NCIC against Mwakwere, has approved his prosecution.”

"The minister's application to block his prosecution has been dismissed by the High Court," Mr Tobiko said Friday.
