MUTULA and the MINISKIRT – Nuns join in

Wednesday July 25, 2012 - Education minister Mutula Kilonzo is currently embroiled in a tussle, after catholic nuns joined other Kenyans in dismissing the minister’s assertions over nuns’ dress code.

Led by the Assumptions Sisters of Nairobi, the nuns took issue with the minister’s remarks, saying they did not have any regrets over their mode of dressing.

According to Sister Florence Muia, she said the minister’s comments were farfetched medieval and derogatory.

“Nuns are adults who have made informed choices and do not regret at all over their dress code,” Muia said.

Muia said nuns have invested heavily in the education sector and the minister was just a newcomer at the Education Ministry.

“Today, nuns run the best schools in terms of discipline and performance and the least Mutula can do is to show some respect to school administrations,” she said

“It is also so unfortunate such a derogatory remark on their habit could come from the Minister of Education,” she added

The nuns said students needed guidance and wondered how miniskirts would improve discipline and performance.
