MP’s corruption case begins


Wednesday July 25, 2012 - The hearing of a case in which Eldoret South Legislator Peris Simam is charged with corruption started in Eldoret on Tuesday.

Simam appeared before Eldoret Senior Magistrate Dolphin Alego for allegedly conspiring to commit a crime contrary to the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act.

The MP committed the offence between January 6 and April 11, 2010 in Eldoret, Uashin Gishu County.

She has been accused of allegedly conspiring to influence the awarding of the contract for maintenance of Bayete-Chuiyat-Bargeiwa road in Eldoret South.

The Eldoret South MP has been also accused of misappropriation of millions of shillings belonging to Constituency Development Fund (CDF) kitty in her constituency.

The case hearing resumes on August 3
