Matiba joins the PRESIDENTIAL race


Thursday July 26, 2012 - Veteran politician Kenneth Stanley Matiba has joined a list of presidential aspirants who wants to contest for presidency in the forthcoming general elections.

Matiba, who once commanded the Central Kenya politics, has registered a new political party, Mzalendo Saba Saba party.

The former Kiharu legislator and a powerful cabinet minister, was detained by the brutal Moi government in the early 1990’s after he fought for the repealling of section 2A to make Kenya a Multi Party State.

He was detained together with reformists Charles Rubia and Prime Minister Raila Odinga until Moi government agreed to repeal the constitution.

They were later released in 1991 and Kenya was made a Multi Party State.
Matiba took second place in 1992 presidential election.

The politician burned his voter’s card in 1997 presidential election citing lack of democracy and transparency in the preparation of the poll.

In 2002, Matiba did not run for election due to his illness which was stemmed from his imprisonment during years of liberations.

Matiba is the youngest Kenyan to reach the class of billionaires’ class at age 46.
