Marende declares Kangema, Kajiado North and Ndhiwa VACANT

Friday July 20, 2012 - House Speaker Kenneth Marende has declared Kangema, Kajiado North and Ndhiwa parliamentary seats vacant.

Marende has formally released writs for the three electoral areas to the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC), paving way for by elections that will see new MPs elected in those constituencies.

National Assembly Clerk, Patrick Gichohi, confirmed that the writs have been issued for the three parliamentary seats, which fell vacant following the deaths of Environment Minister John Michuki, Internal Security Minister George Saitoti and his assistant Orwa Ojode.

Michuki died in February while Prof George Saitoti and Mr Orwa Ojode perished in a tragic helicopter crash on June 10.

Now the ball is on the IEBC to declare the by- election dates.
