Kibaki arrives in London for Olympics

President Mwai Kibaki arrived in London Thursday morning to attend the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympics games among other official engagements.
The plane carrying President Kibaki and his entourage touched down at Heathrow International Airport at 06.45 am local time.
On arrival, President Kibaki was received by the Queen's Representative, Sir David Brewer, Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London, other senior officials of the UK Government as well as Kenya High Commissioner to Britain, Ambassador Ephraim Ngare.
The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympics games will feature about 10,500 athletes competing in 36 different sports and over seven million spectators.
The presence of President Kibaki is expected to boost the morale of the Kenyan team and further raise the profile of the country as one of the world's leading athletics nation.
Besides the Olympics, President Kibaki will also attend the Kenya Investment Conference which will focus on the ready to invest-in projects as articulated under Vision 2030 namely the Lamu-South Sudan-Ethiopia Transport and Development (LAPPSET), Infrastructure and Public Private Partnerships, Information and Technology, Railways, Real Estate, Social Infrastructure and Tourism, Special Economic Zones as well as Wholesale and Retail Trade.
The Conference, the first of its kind in London, will provide an extraordinary opportunity for investors, businesses and government to dialogue on investing and doing business in Kenya.
On the platform of the Olympics, President Kibaki will also attend a Kenya National Exhibition which is an integrated marketing initiative targeting to bring out Kenya's potential in all key sectors and showcase the same to the global community.
One of the key events that will take place during the exhibition will be the Diaspora Conference which will involve about 600 Kenyans living in the United Kingdom.
The objective of the Kenya-UK Diaspora Conference will to share information on the Diaspora Strategy which is being developed in order to increase their participation in Kenya's national development agenda.
The Head of State is accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Prof. Sam Ongeri, Youth and Sports Minister Paul Otuoma and his assistant Kabando Kabando, Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary Thuita Mwangi and his youth and sports counterpart Waweru among other senior government officials.
