I will not ENDORSE anyone for president – Kibaki

Tuesday July 24, 2012 - President Mwai Kibaki on Monday ruled out a plan of endorsing anyone for the presidential seat in the forthcoming general election.

Speaking during the ground breaking of Olkaria IV 280 MW power project in Naivasha, the Head of State admitted he was under intense pressure from his foot soldiers to name his preferred presidential candidate, a thing which he dismissed fervently.

“As we prepare for the coming elections some people have been questioning me on my stand but I wonder of what help it will be to them,”Kibaki said.

The president advised those seeking the presidency that it is only by hard work which will help them attain the top seat.

He urged all the presidential aspirants to campaign for peace, development and tolerance in order to win favour from masses of Kenyan electorate.

Kibaki also hit out at those preaching hate among Kenyans, saying his government will deal with them accordingly.

In recent rallies, supporters of various presidential candidates have asked President Kibaki to endorse their presidential candidate.

Among the political bigwigs who have asked for endorsement are Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka and Deputy Prime Ministers Uhuru Kenyatta and Musalia Mudavadi.
