I am sorry for grabbing 100 acre IDP land-Ruto

I am sorry for grabbing 100 acre IDP land-Ruto

Tuesday July 24, 2012 - Eldoret North MP William Ruto has said he is sorry for grabbing a 100 acre piece of land belonging to an Internally Displaced Person (IDP) during the height of 2007-08 post election violence.

Adrian Muteshi told the High Court in Nairobi that Ruto had apologized to him and told him that he was initially duped when buying the land.

Muteshi said he met with Ruto and his lawyers in Nairobi last month and Ruto said he was willing to settle the case out of court.

The IDP said he wanted the matter settled in court although Ruto’s offer was more reasonable.

“He called me and we met in his office with our lawyers. He told me “mzee, I want to apologise because I was misled and cheated out of this deal,”Muteshi told Lady Justice Rose Ougo in Nairobi on Monday.

He told the court that Ruto promised not to plant on the farm this season and agreed to give him back his land.

Muteshi went to court last year accusing the Eldoret North legislator of grabbing his land after the 2007-08 post election violence.
