Corridors of Power
An MP allied to Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka may soon find himself in the courts. Apparently, the Mheshimiwa, who runs a popular business in Nairobi, has run into financial troubles and is unable to pay his suppliers who are now threatening to move to court to demand payment in millions of shillings. The MP has been avoiding going to his office for fear of meeting with the angry suppliers camping there, some of who are considering petitioning the VP to intervene.

Battle lines have been drawn in Siaya county with aspirants now aligning themselves either with Lands minister James Orengo or Finance assistant minister Oburu Oginga, both of who have declared their interest for senator. Some of the elders want to prevail on Oburu to step down but are too afraid to speak out for fear of annoying his younger brother, Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Nairobi governor hopeful Philip Kisia found himself in a tight fix when he twice failed to get the correct names of Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga. During the ODM reconciliation rally at the Bomas of Kenya, Kisia urged those present to support "Raila Amollo Adinga" to clinch power. He got a less than cheering response response when he once again referred to Raila as "Raila Omollo Odinga". Housing assistant minister Margaret Wanjiru saved the Nairobi former town clerk from further mortification when she told him the ODM party leader's correct name. Kisia was cheered when he eventually got it right.

Tony Gachoka, the former chief of protocol for Prime Minister Raila Odinga, has a full job description at the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs. Responding to concerns raised by the ministry staff in yesterday's Corridors of Power, Gachoka said he is employed on contract at the ministry. "My express mandate is communication and advocacy. I report directly to the minister or perform duties as he may direct," he told Corridors yesterday.
