Human rights crusader Ann Njogu was on Thursday charged with assaulting her 73-year-old father.
Mrs Njogu, the executive director of the Centre for Rights Education and Awareness, was charged in a Nakuru court jointly with her underage son. The boy is in secondary school.
The two, however, denied assaulting Mr Paul Njuguna Njoroge at his Tumaini Farm in Milangini District, Nyandarua County, on December 29 last year.
Before taking the plea, Mrs Njogu and her son first filed an application asking the court to have the case referred to the High Court on grounds that the prosecution had hurriedly preferred charges against them without conducting investigations.
They told the court that a warrant of arrest was issued without their knowledge.
But senior principal magistrate John Njoroge declined to grant their application.
Mrs Njogu and her son were freed on a Sh30,000 bond. The case will be heard on August 24.
