Onyonka backs Obure senator bid

ASSISTANT minister for Foreign Affairs Richard Onyonka has backed Public Works minister Chris Obure for the Kisii county senator seat. Speaking in Kisii, Onyonka said that he will go for the county governor’s seat saying he has what it takes to go for the seat. . “I want to declare here today that I will support Obure for senator and I’m going for the governor’s seat,” said the Kitutu Chache MP. Onyonka will face off with Nairobi lawyer Lumumba Nyaberi who has also declared interest in the race.
Onyonka has also defected from People’s Democratic Party to ODM. “I’m defecting back to ODM but on condition that the nominations will be free and fair,” added Onyonka. Obure, the Bobasi MP and Kisii county ODM chairman has launched a massive campaign in the county to popularize the party and weigh options as he plots to announce his bid for the senator’s seat. “We want the party to win all seats in the county so that we give our presidential candidate foot soldiers at the ground when he becomes president,” added Obure.
At the weekend Obure, Onyonka, Bonchari MP Charles Onyancha and the head The Raila Odinga secretariat James Ongwae held a meeting in Bonchari where they drummed up support for the PM and dismissed the G7 Alliance. Obure is likely to face off with ODM executive director Janet Ong’era for the senator’s seat. Ends
