GEM MP Jakoyo Midiwo has vowed not take his monthly salary as an MP after December 31 arguing that it is against the law. Midiwo said the constitution states that the five-year term of every MP ends by December this year adding that by drawing salaries from exchequer kitty was tantamount to impunity and breach of the constitution. "I will not be a party to those leaders who are out to siphon funds from the government kitty in disguise as legislators and yet the law does not allow that," asserted Midiwo.
The legislator who was accompanied by the area Constituency CDF chairman Joseph Kawuor, was speaking during the weekend at the funeral of the late Samuel Otieno, Sirende village, North Gem location, Gem district. The government chief whip maintained that the elections must be done at the end of this year and called on the citizens to assert pressure to the two principals to ensure that their will is considered.
Midiwo said extending the date of elections to next year is a ploy by government to rig the outcome adding that as ODM party they will resist the move. His sentiments come barely a day after Gichugu MP Martha Karua declared that she will not pocket her monthly salary as a legislator after December as it is against the constitution.
