The reported formation of a political alliance bringing together four small political parties has exposed a rift in one of the parties headed by Imenti Central MP Gitobu Imanyara.
Mr Imanyara, Chama Cha Uzalenzo (CCU) leader on Monday distanced himself from the Hoja Alliance bringing together People’s Party of Kenya, Social Democratic Party, Chama Cha Mwananchi and the Party of Action.
According to a statement by the MP, the decision by CCU chairman Abdalla Maur Bwanamaka to lead the party into the alliance was based on a selfish motive.
“His decision to drag CCU into the alliance is not motivated by any ideology but by his perceived differences with Prime Minister Raila Odinga,” Mr Imanyara said of the move announced on Sunday.
He said Mr Bwanamaka not only breached the party constitution, but also the Political Parties Act, 2011.
The Imenti Central MP said Mr Bwanamaka was out to settle a political score with Mr Odinga, whom he alleges to be behind a fraud case he was facing.
He is charged with forging documents and presenting them to Kenya Ports Authority purporting that they were issued by First Community Bank.
“This is politics of hate and cannot be the basis for joining an alliance,” read the statement.
Mr Imanyara said the party would only consider entering into alliances after a scheduled National Delegates Conference where such a decision would be discussed.
He asked the signatories of the Hoja Alliance to be wary of the activities of the party chairman, who he said had been reported in various instances as being one of the spokespersons of the proscribed Mombasa Republican Council.
He added that Mr Bwanamaka’s views did not reflect CCU ideologies.
“For example, when asked to give his view on devolved government while addressing an Eid Baraza-cum luncheon in September last year, Bwanamaka said that in a devolved government only Coast people will be allowed to
