Tinderet MP Henry Kosgey has confirmed he is engaged in a strategy to woo back rebel ODM MPs to the Orange party. He has vowed to spare no effort to bring back the rebels especially those in his Rift Valley backyard who are allied to Eldoret North MP William Ruto. “Yes, it’s true that we are in talks with all those who left us. We want to engage all of them. ODM wants to accommodate everyone,” he said when asked if he had approached the URP allied MPs.
Kosgey later told the Star that by this weekend, the names of those MPs ready to return to the main ODM fold will be revealed. “By Sunday, you will be able to know whom I have managed to talk to successfully,” he said. Kosgey spoke yesterday at Orange House after he chaired a NEC meeting to plan for its weekend rallies which head to Nyamira, Kisii and Migori counties from Thursday to Saturday.
The NEC meeting weas also attended by 15 MPs who included ministers Chris Obure and Joe Nyagah. He said the ODM reloaded team will be holding a caravan road show in the three counties. He said  a rally which was expected to be held at Gusiii stadium in Sunday has been cancelled because the Prime Minister Raila Odinga will be out of the country. Raila left the country last night for a four-day visit to Russia, where he will lead a Kenyan delegation from private and public sectors to the St Petersburg International Economic Forum.
The ODM boss said that NEC will again meet next week on Wednesday to review its strategy for nationwide county rallies and harmonize the programme for both the party and Raila Odinga Presidential Campaign secretariat. Last evening the PM was expected to host Kisii professionals in a city hotel to discuss Thursday’s Reloaded tour of the two counties.
ODM according to sources has come up with a multi faceted strategy to regain the vote rich Rift Valley, where Ruto appears to hold grip. Kosgey is leading one front, while energy assistant minister Magerer Langat who is considered a moderate is leading another front. Raila is also initiating his own talks with some of the MPs. “The forum we had last week is part of that wider strategy to eventually have everyone on the same basket come election time,”Magerer said.
However, Cherangany MO Joshua Kutuny who is a close ally of Ruto said the team was not worried of nay defections saying their had left ODM and no one will return. "Those who are now telling yoiu thast they are wooing us are the ones who are negotiating to join us in URP," Kutuny said. He said that any Rift MP who wil decamp from URP to ODM or nay other party will be committing political suicide as the regional had wound up its business with ODM.
