Officers torch Mau houses

E-mailPrintPDF
Tension was high yesterday in Maasai Mau forest after security forces burnt down houses in Kalyasoi area.  The Mau settlers' spokesman retired senior chief Christopher Bore claimed that KWS and KFS officers arrived in the area on Thursday and started torching their properties without notice.
Bore, who was a member of the Mau Taskforce, but refused to sign its findings, said the settlers have genuine title deeds and are ready to conserve the forest if they are involved. He said they will only move out of the forest when the government compensates. Contacted, Narok South DC Chimwaga Mongo urged the settlers not to panic saying only those who have continued to encroach on the forest are affected.
