Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi has said his desire to be Kenya's next president remains "strong".
The Local Government minister said Tuesday he was still 'consulting widely' before reaching any decision on his political future but will be making 'systematic statements' on the matter.
He was speaking after hosting a meeting of 18 MPs from his western Kenyan backyard to discuss his options should he decide to ditch the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
“It (presidential bid) is as strong as ever…I believe that Kenyans should have the option to choose the best individual from a list of those interested to lead this country,” said Mr Mudavadi at the Southern Sun Mayfair Hotel, Nairobi.
Those who attended the meeting included Cabinet ministers Wycliffe Oparanya (Planning), Noah Wekesa (Forestry), Moses Wetangula (Trade) and Soita Shitanda (Housing).
Others were Assistant ministers Bifwoli Wakoli (Lands), Manyala Keya (Gender), George Khaniri (Information).
MPs Eseli Simiyu (Kimilili), Chris Okemo (Nambale), Bonny Khalwale (Ikolomani), David Were (Matungu), Yusuf Chanzu (Vihiga), Alfred Sambu (Webuye), Evans Akula (Khwisero), Justus Kizito (Shinyalu) and Ben Washiali (Mumias) also attended.
Mr Mudavadi is unhappy that ODM presented compliance documents to the Registrar of Political Parties without first amending the clause that says the party leader will be the Orange party's presidential flagbearer.
ODM secretary general Anyang' Nyong'o said the party plans to change the nominations rules but had to file registration papers in order to beat the April 30 deadline for full registration as set out in the Political Parties Act.
The Sabatia MP is challenging ODM party leader Raila Odinga for the presidential nomination.
On Monday, Mr Mudavadi held talks with former Cabinet minister Najib Balala, Planning assistant minister Peter Kenneth and former Trade minister Mukhisa Kituyi as he continued to chart his political future.
