The PM emphasized that it was not revenge when justice is called for the victims
Prime Minister Raila Odinga   has called for fresh investigations to be opened in all unresolved murders in the country, saying justice needed to be done to the victims of the murders.
Saying the murders were a source of anger, frustration and a feeling of betrayal, the PM emphasized that it was not revenge when justice is called for the victims.
"It is the responsibility we owe to fellow human beings and bestowed on us by our creator," he added.
The Prime Minister was speaking during the 27th anniversary of the death of the former MP for Kitui North Philip Mutisya  at his  Kaningo home in Tseikuru district, Kitui county.
The late Manandu  who was the MP for Kitui North was shot dead by a policeman in 1985 at his business premises in Tseikuru.
Mr. Odinga observed that the story of Manandu and the silence that surrounds it  to date , has a familiar Kenyan touch saying a prominent Kenyan is killed , then the killer kills himself.
He said it was the story of Tom Mboya, J.M. Kariuki, Pio gama Pinto, Bishop Alexander Muge, Kitili Mwendwa and Dr. Cripin Odhiambo Mbai.
"Promises are made that no stone will be left unturned until those responsible  are brought to book .An  alleged  suspect is apprehended. Then the suspect is himself killed and the suspect's killer also gets killed," he said.
And Added, "The case is then closed with a rider  that the file remains  open. Those with more evidence are asked to present it to the police, yet somewhere in the our midst, somebody knows the answer .somebody is sitting on the truth."
Saying Kenyans have a duty as a nation to be the keepers of the fallen sons and daughters and the families they leave behind ,Mr.Odinga  expressed confidence  that  the nation will one day muster  the courage  and  get to the bottom  of the  murders that have claimed prominent people in  the country.
At the same time, Mr. Odinga reiterated that December was the most suitable month for the next elections noting  elections have been held  in the country every December since the re-introduction of multi party politics in 1992.
He was supported by the Wananchi  at the function who chorused they were for the December date when the PM asked them  which date  they  preferred for the elections.
He expressed confidence that  he will win the  presidential contest during the elections but hastened to add that he will support who ever  will win  the elections.
On  security, the PM said  the government will   beef up security in  the area to  curb  insecurity  in the county that borders  North Eastern   region.
"The government will not shirk its responsibility to  secure people and their property," he   added.
On  the  water situation in the Ukambani, the PM said the government was committed to  building dams and water  pans to harness the water  that washes away during the rainy seasons.
"This water will then be used for both irrigation and for domestic purposes," he said.
He  noted that the area would soon open up for  trade and other economic activities when the Kibwezi-Kitui- Mwingi-Isiolo road that is currently under construction to bitumen standards is completed.
The Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka dismissed reports that he was warming up towards other politicians   with the intention of abandoning his Presidential  ambitions  and  emphasized that he will be on the ballot paper  for the country's presidency come  the elections.
Also present was the minister for water and irrigation charity Ngilu.
