The Education Ministry will foot the travel expenses of parents whose children were involved in an accident in Bungoma.
Education Minister Sam Ongeri said the presence of their guardians would enable them to recover faster.
“The doctors, nurses and the parents will work as a team and we will look for ways and means to ensure they join their children in Nairobi,” Prof Ongeri said in Nairobi on Sunday.
Ten pupils of Mungeti and Marakaru primary schools in Bungoma county died after a lorry knocked them down while on their way home from a sports event at Sikusi Primary School, Sirisia, on Friday evening.
Six died on the spot while others died while being treated.
Of the 51 pupils involved in the incident, those in critical condition were air-lifted to Nairobi and others taken to private hospitals in the area due to the on-going nurses’ strike.
Bungoma OCPD Amos Cheboi said the lorry driver sped off after the accident, but was later arrested.
