Presidential aspirant Martha Karua on Friday received the registration certificate of Narc-Kenya.
The party becomes the first to comply with the Political Party Act registration of the Constitution.
Party officials
Registrar of Political Parties Lucy Ndung’u handed over the certificate to Ms Karua who was accompanied by party secretary-general Danson Mungatana among other party officials.
Ms Karua termed on Friday a historic day for the members. “I still call on the general elections to be held this year as envisaged in the constitution,” she said.
Ms Karua said that Narc-Kenya has officials and membership in all the 47 counties.
“Narc-Kenya believes that a government is as good as the party that forms it and we have gone to great lengths to strengthen our party.
“We have established a party that is people driven, issue based and institutionally sound, to form Kenya’s next government,” she said.
Mr Mungatana said the next finance minister should be able to table the budget next year in April.
Ms Ndung’u said that the parties not only need to comply with the parties Act but also with the elections Act.
Additionally, the organisation’s name, slogan, colours, symbol and objectives are among the key requirements spelt out for parties by the Political Parties Act.
Executive committee
It is a must for all the political parties to present two copies of the party constitution, a list of 1,000 members from at least 24 counties, a list of executive committee representatives and original certificate and the physical address of the organization’s headquarters and branches.
