The Democratic Party will join any political alliance that will have Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta as the presidential candidate.
Speaking in Kiambu, former Limuru MP George Nyanja said they are holding negotiations with other parties allied to Mr Kenyatta in order to have a strong movement.
“In 2002, we joined the alliance and our then party chairman, President Kibaki, was the flag bearer,” he said.
However, he said they will be cautious with joining the alliances, adding they would not want to see a repeat of the situation in 2002 and 2007 where they were dumped after the elections were over.
Mr Kenyatta has declared interest to run for the presidency but has not said on which party ticket.
Mr Nyanja also said the party is gearing up to meet the registrar of political parties’ requirements. He further said they had already hit 20 counties in their recruitment, adding that they have held grassroots elections.
Mr Nyanja, who is also a Kiambu county governor hopeful, said they will hold national elections later in the year where he will be contesting for the party national secretary seat, currently held by former Kieni MP Chris Murungaru.
