They say in politics there are no permanent enemies or friends. Two Nyeri politicians who are — in public at least — known to be bitter rivals were spotted at a Nyeri club last weekend sharing drinks, laughing and generally behaving as if they are close friends. The fact that they spent the better part of the evening enjoying each other's company has now raised speculation that they might be considering joining up their political forces.

Just why the family of former Mwingi North MP Mutisya Manandu wants to hold a huge event to commemorate his murder 27 years ago has led to speculation. Past events have not attracted such high-profile guests as those expected today. That it will give Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka an opportunity to play host to his rival for the presidency, Prime Minister Raila Odinga, is not a factor. Or maybe it is? Whatever the reason, the two will have an opportunity to share a platform today.

Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo is confident that he can trump Eldoret North MP William Ruto to become the URP presidential candidate. Jirongo has been crisscrossing the country meeting URP delegates to persuade them to vote for him when the party holds its nominations. The jaunts have been pretty costly as our moles tell us that Jirongo has been spending millions not only on his travels but also facilitating the delegates' transport.
