Presidential aspirants under the G7 Alliance were on Sunday told to present one candidate or forget about the presidency.
Stating that time was running out, more than 30 MPs allied to the alliance used a prayer-cum-political rally in Machakos town to tell Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta and Eldoret North MP William Ruto that time was not on their side.
“Uhuru, Ruto and Kalonzo are my friends, we are close but I’m telling them that there is only one slot for the presidency.
They should agree now on who among them will be the torchbearer or forget about stopping Prime Minister Raila Odinga from State House,” assistant minister Gideon Ndambuki said. (READ: Kibaki men jostle for the mantle)
Tourism assistant minister Cecily Mbarire said the alliance dream would die if the three decided to go different ways.
“If Kalonzo chooses to go alone with his Kamba tribesmen, Ruto with the Rift Valley and Uhuru with Central Province, that will be the day the alliance dream will die,” she said.
Kangundo MP Johnstone Muthama told the three to swallow their pride and agree on a single candidate.
“I am telling Uhuru, Kalonzo and Ruto to stop this cat and mouse game. Don’t entertain selfishness; the alliance bus is ready to take off and our target is Raila,” Mr Muthama said.
The crowd came from all the 17 constituencies in Ukambani as well as Nairobi and were ferried in hired buses majority of them belonging to secondary schools.
Makadara MP Mike Mbuvi alias Sonko accused Justice Minister Mutula Kilonzo of working with Mr Odinga to block the three from the race.
“Mr Kilonzo is keeping lions in his Machakos ranch, he feeds the animals by slaughtering three cows daily yet his people in Mbooni are dying of hunger,” said Mr Mbuvi.
