The battle for ODM’s presidential ticket intensified at the weekend with Prime Minister Raila Odinga and his deputy Musalia Mudavadi holding separate meet-the-delegates tours to rally support for their bids.
Mr Odinga took his campaign to Kwale County where he promised that an ODM government would address the land issue in Coast Province.
Mr Mudavadi, on his part, was in Bomet County where he asked locals to vote for ODM candidates from the President to county government representatives during the next General Election. (READ: Quit the race, Raila allies tell Mudavadi)
Addressing delegates in Kwale, Mr Odinga accused some leaders in the G7 Alliance of opposing the enactment of the new Constitution only to turn round and claim credit for the formation of county governments.
The PM said that Coast had lagged behind in development especially in the education, health and economic sectors due to marginalisation by past governments.
Mr Odinga promised to hold dialogue with the outlawed Mombasa Republican Council to listen to their grievances and agree on ways of resolving their issues.
“When I saw the youths donning T-Shirts declaring Pwani si Kenya from here (Coast), I got concerned and knew something was wrong and I’m ready to hold talks with them,” he said.
In Bomet, Mr Mudavadi asked ODM supporters to vote for ODM candidates for all the six contestable positions to ensure effective governance if he wins the presidency.
“You cannot expect to have a president hanging in the air by electing him to the top post and electing leaders from other parties to fill up the other elective seats at the county and national assemblies,” he told ODM delegates at St Bakhita Catholic conference hall, in Bomet Town.
