Decide now the date of general election

The debate on the date when the next general election will be held has dragged on for weeks. The question was first placed before the Judiciary who said the election should be held by March next year. The constitutional court judges however said the two principals — President Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga — can bring the election forward by signing an agreement to dissolve the coalition government before the end of this year.
The two principals have now — according to Raila — seen it fit to refer the matter to Parliament. Parliament has before it a Bill presented by Justice minister Mutula Kilonzo which proposes amending the constitution which stipulates that elections be held on the second Tuesday of August. The Bill proposes changing the election date from August to December this year.
It's time that Kenyans were told once and for all when election will be held. The IEBC needs time to prepare to conduct what is going to the most complicated election in the country's history. Too much is hanging on this decision. The time for uncertainty is over.
Quote of the day: It is not only what we do, but also what we do not do, for which we are accountable.” — Jean-Baptiste Poquelin known by his stage name Moliere, a French playwright and actor considered one of the greatest masters of comedy in Western literature, died on February 17, 1673.
