Whats in a name? Eldoret North MP William Ruto and Makadara MP Gideon “Sonko” Mbuvi might soon have to decide which one of them will change the acronym of new parties they are associated with. Sonko sponsored the registration of Unga Revolution Party (URP) last year while Ruto's United Republican Party (URP) was registered last month. With the Political Parties Act providing that parties should not share confusing or similar names, abbreviations, colors or symbols, observers are keenly watching to see what the Registrar of Political Parties will do to resolve what is definitely a conflict. After all, her office is the one that issued the provisional registration certificates to both parties!

It seems that Gideon Mbuvi Kioko does not carry as much cache as Mike Sonko. To build up on the brand that he has cultivated as Mike Sonko, the Makadara MP has reportedly started the process of changing his name and has already submitted the affidavit. He also needs to submit a copy of his birth certificate and a certificate of good conduct before the name change is effected. It seems the man is determined to be on the ballot paper for either the senate or parliamentary race.

A Mombasa hotelier went into panic mode last week when Zambian police claimed that Henry Banda, son of former president Rupiah Banda wanted for money laundering and other crimes, was in Kenya. The hotelier, a close family friend and business partner of the Bandas last year hosted Thandiwe Banda, wife of the ex-president at one of his luxurious beach house when she came on a working vacation. Coincidentally Thandiwe, was last week questioned by Zambian police in connection with luxurious villas in Lusaka and a bank account holding about $1 million.

The law i s a serious thing and so Corridors was heartened to over judges exchanging banter about some of the recent rulings. A High Court judge teased his colleagues on the Court of Appeal for issuing an injunction on the vetting of judges and magistrates. He joked about the decision by the Constitutional court which stated that the elections should be held in March 2013. "I hoped the vetting process would be out of my way because if l fail to get through, then l just might be in time to run for elective office!" he joked. But a Supreme Court judge quickly cautioned him against joining politics.
