Prime Minister Raila Odinga wants Kenyans to give the coalition government time to consult before announcing the possible date for the next general polls.
He said the coalition management committee was expected to deliberate on the issue following the recent court ruling before presenting their recommendations to the two principals for approval.
Raila said the recent court ruling over the date of the next polls merely interpreted the constitution and squarely placed the decision on the two principals.
He also cautioned local politicians against engaging in acts of political violence and accept the will of the people even when they lost to their opponents.
The premier was speaking in Kasipul Kabondo in Homa Bay County.
Meanwhile, pressure continues to mount on the two principals to decide on the election date in conjunction with the Interim Independent Boundaries Commission.
Information minister Samuel Poghisio while commending the ruling said the two leaders need to come up with a decision before time runs out views shared by Budalangi Mp Ababu Namwamba and former leader Joseph Kamotho.
Poghisio says the ruling will give the IEBC time to plan and work on the devolution process.
He however noted that the sooner the decision is made the better for Kenyans who are already anticipating the elections.
Namwamba said the constitution should be the guiding principle adding that the suggested date in March will compromise other activities like the education curriculum.
"The two principals have to agree on when to terminate the national accord to give room for the IEBC to set the program for the election, complete the boundaries review process and registration of voters to enable a smooth election exercise to take place."
Similar sentiments were echoed over the weekend by a section of leaders following last Friday's ruling by the high court relegating the duty of deciding the date to the IEBC.
