The PNU Alliance Party may change its name to Alliance Party of Kenya to ensure its supporters do not confuse it with PNU that is chaired by Internal Security minister George Saitoti.
According to the party’s convenor Kiraitu Murungi, the Alliance’s national executive council was considering changing the name to the Alliance Party of Kenya after both the Registrar of Societies and that of Political Parties said that it may lead to confusion.

“There has been discussion within our party whether there is need to change the name from PNU Alliance to The Alliance Party of Kenya. But it’s a proposal that we have made to the Registrar of Political Parties. No final approval has been given so the name of the Alliance still remains until the legal process is completed,” said Mr Murungi, who is also the Energy minister.
Speaking in Nairobi, Mr Murungi said that the PNU Alliance will achieve its objective of fielding a single presidential candidate for the General Election that is expected to be held later this year.
“We are not turning back and we want to reassure everybody that the Alliance is going strong. We want to win this election in the first round with 50 plus per cent of the votes. From the look of things, we see the ODM, the UDM and the PNU Alliance as the main political parties that will be deciding the political destiny of this country,” said Mr Murungi.
