Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi said on Monday that ODM is prepared for the general election provided the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) was ready to conduct one.
Mr Mudavadi said IEBC must be in a position to guarantee a free and fair process before an election date can be fixed.
“I want to guarantee everyone that the ODM machinery is well placed to face any challenge from our opponents who have now started regrouping to dismantle the support our party enjoyed across the country,” said Mudavadi.
He said the ODM manifesto is clear that devolution is the way to realise equitable distribution of resources and the party still championing the same.
Mr Mudavadi, also the Minister of Local Government, said that he was working round the clock to lobby MPs to pass the devolution bill in Parliament before the end of February.
He was speaking in Voi town when he met 240 ODM delegates from Taita Taveta county to seek support for his bid to be the party's presidential candidate.
Mudavadi is vying against party leader Prime Minister Raila Odinga who has also declared interest in the same position.
“This is an open democracy and any one else who wishes to seek nomination is also free to do that. At the end the winner will be supported by the losers,” he said.
He however accused the registrar of political parties of breaking the law by allowing party members to join other parties before denouncing ODM that sponsored them to Parliament.
Livestock assistant minister Mr Dan Mwazo urged ODM members at the Coast to remain united and shun those forming ethnic political parties in the region.
He said those were people serving selfish interests hired to interfere with the support the orange party has in the area.
Mr Mudavadi was by accompanied by Assitant Minister CalistUS Mwatela and MPs Thomas Mwadeghu and Justus Kizito.
