REPAIRS TOO SHODDY. The gains from the road repairs going on in various parts of Nairobi are, ironically, being eroded by the actions of some City Council personnel and other organisations that have no scruples about digging up roads to connect service cables and loosely fill up the trenches with stones, moans James Githinji. Even a little rain will wash away the makeshift repairs. An example, James adds, is Enterprise Road where such a badly repaired trench is now the cause of endless traffic jams. “Shame on you, CCN!” he yells.

CHANGE THE NAME. The choice of the Inoorero University name is out of linguistic poverty, remarks Samuel Wanyoike, saying that what is loosely translated into English as a sharpener, is actually a suitable reference to a kindergarten. “It does not inspire diversity and it’s even harder for those of us who can read, write and speak the language from which it was borrowed and still can’t understand the motive for the branding. I would even rather have Kamau or Mwangi University,” says Samuel.

IT IS NOT POSSIBLE. The proposal by Francis Mutegi to have patrons pay only for the programmes they watch on DStv is not possible, says MultiChoice Kenya general manager Stephen Isaboke. The company has no way of knowing whether a subscriber is viewing the channels on the service or not, as neither the decoder nor the smart card have a counting mechanism. “Like many other Pay-TV operators, we buy complete channels from various providers. The DStv service is like a newspaper which is paid for in full whether one reads the whole or sections of it.”

RUTO, WE ARE GIDDY. With Eldoret North MP William Ruto, who encouraged many of his supporters to pay and join the UDM having deserted it for yet another party, URP, who will compensate them for the loss of the entry fee they paid? asks Tony Gee. “Mr Ruto’s decision to leave UDM has disappointed many of his supporters who had joined it in solidarity with him. Will he refund the money himself? Please, Mr Ruto, no more party hopping. We can’t afford it,” says Tony, whose contact is teegee6@ovi.com.

WHERE'S MY PARCEL? Jimi Hendricks M. Namuye still wants to know from Posta what became of a parcel a friend of his, Jonas Alexander Pettersen Borud, sent on March 27, last year from Norway by regular mail. It was to be delivered within six working days but it had no tracking number as that would have cost him $75 more. It was mailed as a gift with a maximum value of $20 to P.O. Box 85 - 50125, Musanda, Kenya, and contained an ordinary camera and a Web camera. Namuye’s contact is Tel. 0722390989 or email hendowed@gmail.com.

WE APOLOGISE. Telkom Kenya apologises to Nairobi subscriber Isaac Githuthu, whose two landlines have been out of service for a while. However, chief corporate communications officer Angela Ng’ang’a-Mumo says Tel 3882282 is already working, but there is a bill hitch on Tel 3884751. The total was Sh10,475, but the access fee of Sh4678.63 has been waived, leaving a balance of Sh5,796.37 for call charges incurred in August. “As soon as the bill is cleared, we will restore service immediately,” says Angela.
Have a hitchless day, won’t you!
