Corridors of Power .

Saturday, 08 October 2011 00:04 BY POLITICAL DESK . PM Raila Odinga . We are told that the Kenyan Embassy in Washington DC spent more than $10,000 (Sh1,050,000) to hire the hall where Prime Minister Raila Odinga met Kenyans in the state of Minnesota during his recent tour of the US. A section of Kenyans in the Diaspora are wondering whether it was worth it since only a few Kenyans attended the meeting with the Premier. === A group of elders from Eastern region have petitioned a senior politician to retain one of their own at the helm of the police when an Inspector General of Police is appointed. The elders are fearful that their son might be edged out of contention for one of the top seats. The elders visited the office of the politician two weeks ago. It is believed that the senior police officer asked the elders to bid for him. === Tales from the recently concluded All Africa Games in Maputo, Mozambique seem endless and bizarre. We are told that boxing players, like a section of officials, are yet to be paid some of their allowances two weeks after the games came to an end. The boxers had to use their allowances to pay AIBA, the international association, before entering the ring. Corridors still recalls the story of a Taekwondo player who travelled by road to Maputo when there were extra tickets. We wonder why the Sports ministry has not investigated all these claims despite being in Maputo. === We are informed that a local bank with links to Charterhouse Bank, which is in receivership, is in trouble after the Central Bank of Kenya withdrew its fixed deposit of Charterhouse bank held at the bank due to ongoing concern doubts. We are informed that the bank has accounts related to those in Charterhouse and have huge exposures of unsecured loans.
