Police shoot down five suspected gangsters

Among the items recovered from the suspected criminals' vehicle included 3 pistols, 17 rounds of ammunition and a set of motor vehicle registration plates
Police officers from the Special Crime Prevention Unit Wednesday afternoon intercepted and shot dead five suspected gangsters in Buruburu estate.
The officers were trailing the suspected criminals, who were said to have been on the way to commit a crime along Mumias road in Buruburu, near the Uchumi supermarket.
The midday incident occurred when upon realizing they were being trailed, the suspects started shooting at the police officers, who in turn opened fire at the saloon car the thugs were in, killing all five instantly.
Among the items recovered from the suspected criminals' vehicle included 3 pistols, 17 rounds of ammunition and a set of motor vehicle registration plates.
The officers said the five are known criminals whom they have been pursuing for a while now.
The bodies of the deceased have since been transferred to the city mortuary.
