Prime Minister’s adviser on coalition affairs Miguna Miguna blames two people for his suspension.
Mr Miguna launched a tirade against ODM Chief Whip Jakoyo Midiwo and permanent secretary in the PM’s office Mohammed Isahakia, saying they were responsible for his predicament.
In a bare-all statement, Mr Miguna stated that he had not been told of the charges against him.
The statement, titled “Miguna’s Side of the Story”, was posted on a social blog, Jukwaaa.
According to him, the decision to suspend him was made at a meeting in Nairobi attended by among others Mr Midiwo and Budalang’i MP Ababu Namwamba.
He says only Mr Namwamba and another un-named MP defended him.
He said he was neither alerted of the impending suspension nor given an opportunity to respond to the accusations.
“I don’t know the charges against me. I haven’t been given notice of the allegations. Neither have I been accorded an opportunity to respond to them.
“But I’m completely disappointed that under the new Constitution that I played a pivotal role in drafting and having ratified, I would be treated with such callous disregard to my legal and constitutional rights, including simple human decency,” he said.
Mr Miguna claims in the article that when he contacted the PM’s spokesman, Mr Dennis Onyango, about the suspension, he told him to treat the story as rumours.
The suspended official vowed to carry on with the struggle for “a democratic, equal and humane Kenya” despite the drawback.
“I am going to stand upright up to the end,” he writes.
Mr Miguna said he got the news of his suspension while attending a party retreat at Enashipai Resort and Spa in Naivasha.
Gross misconduct
He was suspended on Thursday for “gross misconduct” and ordered by Dr Isahakia to leave office immediately and hand over government property to the administration secretary, Mr Caroli Omondi.
The abrasive lawyer is accused of misrepresenting the Office of the PM, possibly a reference to his having aired strong views which may have embarrassed the PM.
Mr Miguna, a regular commentator in the Star, recently wrote stinging criticisms of the Interim Independent Electoral Commission in his column, particularly its chairman, Mr Isaack Hassan, whom he accused of unfairly taking all the credit for the commission’s good work so far.
