The Kenya Anti Corruption Commission (KACC) said yesterday there is no political good will and zeal to fight corruption. The Executive Director of KACC, Patrick Lumumba said the anti-graft body has always become a victim when it talked about loss of funds and misuse of public offices by officers.
Speaking to delegates attending the 2nd Africa Governance Leadership and Management Convention in Mombasa, Lumumba said 90 percent of the wealth acquired by government officers facing graft is ill-gotten. Said Lumumba, “I have had an advantage of studying every African country keenly. We are in a bad state since every country examined is undermined by corruption. Their richest men are those we have entrusted with our economy. They use public offices for private gain.”
While presenting on ‘The Fight Against Corruption as a Poverty reduction Agenga in Africa’ Lumumba said there is not a single country in Africa where elements of corruption, were lacking. He singled out Mauritius, Botwana, Namibia, South Africa and Rwanda, as countries whose levels of fighting corruption were high.
Lumumba added that in Kenya, although the fight against corruption does not get the much-needed support, the anti graft body had worked with different institutions to make sure that the systems improve and thus cut the levels of corruption in public offices.
