Kalonzo woos partners for 2012 polls

By ATHMAN AMRAN AND VPPS

Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has said he is keen to work with likeminded leaders from across the country to unite the nation and eradicate divisive politics.
Kalonzo said he is ready to be part of a formidable team that will win the 2012 General Election and form Government.
He said Kenyans need a leader who is capable of uniting the country and work closely with other leaders in the region and across the globe.
The VP reiterated that he has the necessary experience to lead Kenya having served in President Kibaki and former President Moi’s Government.
He was addressing wananchi yesterday at Ngitana Primary School  grounds in Kabachi in Igembe North Constituency.
Kalonzo later helped distribute relief food to several families affected by drought.  He also addressed rallies at Mutuati Secondary School, Laare market and met religious and opinion leaders of the constituency at Mutuati School Hall.
The VP assured residents that the Government is committed to working with other organisations and individuals to ensure that all Kenyans affected by famine receive relief food.
He paid tribute to the initiators of the “Kenyans for Kenya Initiative” for augmenting government efforts through the campaign that has seen hundreds of millions raised to fight famine.
And on the proposed Kibwezi-Mwingi-Isiolo road, the VP said the Government would consider extending the project to Maua to open up the area and spur economic development. He said the Government has set aside Sh300 million to establish an irrigation scheme along River Tana.
The VP was accompanied by the area MP Ntoithia M’Mithiaru, Kangundo MP Johnson Muthama, Wajir North MP Mohammed Gabbow and former MP Joseph Muturia among other local leaders.

Compensate
Speaking in Mwingi earlier, he asked  the local council to shelve plans to increase water rates saying the move would worsen the effects of the drought on the residents.
The donation is part of the VP’s efforts to empower the youth in the area.
He donated more than 20 motorcycles to operators in Kamuwuongo, Tesikuru, Kyuso Kaningo and Muumoni in his Mwingi North Constituency. “The Government will increase famine relief monthly supplies from the current 1,000 bags of maize to 2,000 for Mwingi, Tseikuru, Kyuso and Muumoni districts to ensure all the affected families are adequately catered for,” Kalonzo said.
He called for environmental conservation and cautioned against wanton felling of trees for charcoal burning, which he blamed for climate change. Kalonzo who is also the area MP advised small-scale entrepreneurs including the boda boda operators to form savings and cooperative societies to enable them access funds set aside by the Government and financial institutions.
He announced that the Government has set aside Sh95 million to compensate landowners who will be displaced by the on-going Mwingi-Usueni Road construction.
He was accompanied by Mwingi Central DC Peter Kinuthia and other local leaders. And on Friday, at the closing of the ODM-Kenya national youth symposium, the Vice-President urged  the youth to participate in the 2012 presidential campaigns.
He made the remarks at Wiper House headquarters in Nairobi.
More than 150 youths from all the 47 counties attended the symposium, led by the party’s National Youth coordinator Mr Charles Munene Njagi. ODM-Kenya has been holding youth and women symposiums throughout the country to popularise party policies and development agenda.
The two-day symposium also proposed the formation of the Kenyans for Kalonzo 2012 and holding of regional youth symposiums to recruit and strengthen the party.
