Webuye deputy mayor Timothy Karandin was Tuesday night shot dead by unknown gunmen at his home.
The Matulo Ward councillor had driven into his compound in Muju sub-location and parked his car.
As he got out of his car, he was grabbed by the assailants.
His screams alerted neighbours, who reported hearing three gunshots.
They later went to the compound together with a local pastor and found Mr Karandin lying in a pool of blood.
They rushed him to Webuye District Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
