Gunmen attack two in Nairobi robbery attempts

By Cyrus Ombati

Two people were shot and seriously wounded by gunmen in separate robbery attempts in Nairobi. The first victim was a 56-year-old man who was shot and wounded in the shoulder in his Dagoretti residence.
Police and the family said the gang of four broke into the house on Monday night and demanded money before they opened fire at the man for allegedly defying their orders.
Nairobi Area PPO Anthony Kibuchi said the gang escaped soon after the shooting and are yet to be arrested.
The second incident happened in Kitsuru area where a night guard was shot and wounded in a robbery incident. The gang had gained entry into the compound after cutting the fence.
It was then that the guard tried to raise alarm prompting them to shoot. Police said the gang escaped without stealing anything.
In Dandora a family said men who claimed to be police forced their way into their house and robbed them of their property. The family said the men were looking for their kin Stephen Otoro who has been in hiding over what they termed as political reasons.
The gang left the house after they failed to get documents that they claimed Otoro had been compiling detailing political activities in the country since 2007.
And in the same area, mourners were attacked and robbed of their money. The victims said they had been meeting for burial arrangements of their kin when a gang of five attacked and robbed them of their cash and valuables.
No arrest has been made but police say they are hunting the gang.
