2011 governance convention kicks off in Mombasa

Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo called for leaders to invest in providing quality education to youth
African leaders have been challenged to invest in its youth to help propel the continent's economic development.
Leaders convening at the 2nd Africa Governance and Leadership Management Convection 2011 that is ongoing in Mombasa said the future of the continent lies with the youth who represent the largest percentage of the population.
Former Republic of Nigeria President Olusegun Obasanjo Wednesday said African leaders must also invest in providing quality education that will go hand in hand with the current global job market.  
Obasanjo further called for the leadership to push for implementation of reforms ongoing in many countries which he said will have far reaching impact on the continents economic and political development.
The forum convened has brought together leaders and experts from around the continent drawn from public and private sector.
Food insecurity
The congregating delegates also called on the African leadership to come up with lasting solutions to food insecurity that has hit several countries in the continent.
Obasanjo said that the leaders need to put in place measures that will ensure adaptability to the threat of climate change which is the main cause of food insecurity across the continent of Africa.
Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka attributed the drought that has hit Kenya to the effects global warming and lack of rainfall.
The VP further thanked the Kenyans for Kenya initiative for the enormous contribution towards saving the starving Kenyans in the country.
The initiative has so far managed to collect a contribution of over 101 million shillings as it looks to raise half a billion shillings in 4 weeks to help feed those faced with starvation.
