PAY UP NOW. Talk of MPs allegedly plotting against President Kibaki, Prime Minister Raila Odinga, and Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka over the taxation of their hefty salaries and allowances is baffling, remarks Charles Mwabili. Whether they were duped that they would be exempted from paying tax or not is immaterial, adds Charles, appealing to them to realise that the Constitution is supreme. “The earlier the MPs and Speaker Kenneth Marende realise the futility of their protests and pay up the better.”

HEAR OUR CRY. Long queues at the Safaricom care centres at Sarit Centre, Westlands, Nairobi, are not the only problem, says Dr J.W. Freidel. Even after enduring the agony, he still finds the service inefficient, “though the staff are friendly”. But Dr Freidal would like to know why Safaricom has no customer care centres in the vast area around Hurlingham, Kilimani, Valley Arcade, and Ngong Road. As a result, he moans, one has to go all the way to Westlands. His contact is besyp@africaonline.co.ke.

SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE. Telkom Kenya is pleased to confirm that Pravin Shah’s telephone, No 4444633, at Westlands, Nairobi, which has been out of order for the past two months, is now working again. Angela Ng’ang’a-Mumo, the head of corporate communications, says a vandalised cable linking the line to the main network was the cause of the problem, which has now been sorted out. “We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and hope to serve him better,” Angela concludes. Her contact is anganga@orange-tkl.co.ke

SHOCKING OUTCOME. On June 28, George Opondo decided to port his Airtel line, No 0733577078, to Orange, paying the Sh200 fee (Receipt No RAB 6438712), at Telecare Mega, at the GPO, Nairobi. Two days later, the number was switched off. But he was shocked to note that his new Orange number was 771032550 and not 0733755078. Since then, he has not been able to use his phone and the reason given is that Airtel has not yet released his number. “I’ve had this number for 10 years, and all my contacts know it.” His contact is gopondo@gateway-insurance.co.ke.

NO ANSWER. For over a year, Dr Sat Ramrakha and his wife, Dr Urmila S. Ramrakha, have been ferrying water from home to their surgery for washing hands and flushing toilets. Says he: “It has been very frustrating, but we continue paying the standing charges.” On March 3, they sent a complaint by registered mail to Mr J.K. Mwangi, the acting commercial director, Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company. It has never been acknowledged and follow-up calls have yielded nil.” His contact is satramrakha@gmail.com.

THANKS GOOD SAMARITAN. Alex Mwongellah wishes to thank the driver of a red car who saved his daughter’s life by stopping and rushing her to hospital after his vehicle broke down on the Nanyuki-Nyeri road, near the Chania River bridge, on Sunday, July 5. In the confusion, however, he didn’t remember to find out his name or take down his contact or vehicle number. “However, my family and I wish him all the best. May God bless him for his kind deed.” Alex is pleading that he contacts him through mwollex@yahoo.com
Have a caring day, won’t you!
