KAKAMEGA, Kenya, Jun 19 – Finance Minister Uhuru Kenyatta has assured the constituents of Ikolomani that the Sigalagala- Butere road will be completed soon.

Mr Kenyatta said that the Treasury had allocated funds for the project and would ensure that it is well constructed to serve the residents.

Mr Kenyatta who was speaking at Dr Bony Khalwale’s homecoming in Kakamega also praised him for protecting taxpayer’s money by always being vocal on money matters in Parliament.

Prime Minister Raila Odinga came under fire for commissioning the construction of the road during the campaign period, a move which was seen as deliberate campaign gimmick to win the vote for the Orange democratic Movement (ODM)

On his part Dr Khalwale said that he does not fear ODM led by Prime Minister Raila Odinga having managed to defeat its candidates first in the 2007 polls and recently in the by election.

Dr Khalwale who was celebrating his recent victory also asserted that the influence Mr Odinga and ODM had in Western province has dwindled since the 2007 General Election.

Dr Khalwale of  The New Ford Kenya got a fresh mandate to represent the people of Ikolomani  in May  after recapturing his seat which became vacant after a High Court ruling on February 18 when it nullified his 2007 election on account of massive irregularities.

Bernard Shinali, who had filed the successful petition, then went ahead to assemble a powerful campaign machinery that was coordinated by his party luminaries - Leader Raila Odinga, Deputy Leader Musalia Mudavadi and Secretary General Anyang' Nyong'o among others.

Dr Khalwale, on the other hand, got the silent support of the Party of National Unity which did not field a candidate for the race and consequently defeated Mr Shinali of ODM with 13208 votes against 10634 votes.

He has also challenged Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi to declare the seat he will vie for in 2012.

Suspended Higher Education Minister William Ruto used the occasion to reaffirm that the association between him, Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, Uhuru Kenyatta and Saboti MP Eugene Wamalwa will not disintegrate ahead of the 2012 polls.
