A section of ODM delegates yesterday converged for a retreat in Kitengela, Kajiado district, to plan for the forthcoming party elections. Former Makadara MP Reuben Ndolo who hosted the delegates alongside Mayor George Aladwa and John Kiarie urged the delegates to remain united under Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
He urged them to conduct themselves in a mature manner and ensure peaceful elections. “We need to avoid the mistakes we made in the last elections by enhancing democracy from within,” he told the delegates.
Ndolo appealed to the delegates to adopt an open forum of resolving differences instead of confrontations. “Let us embrace harmony and preach forgiveness at all levels,” he said. Ndolo who is vying for the position of ODM chairman, Nairobi County, reiterated the need for working together and embracing teamwork.
Highlighting the rankings by opinion polls, Ndolo extended an olive branch to renegade members, telling them that ODM is still the party to beat and that it is still not late for them to join hands and create a formidable force. “There is need for us to reinforce the team that will take us to State House come next year,” he said, adding that the party’s position on who its presidential candidate and running mate will be has not changed.
John Kiarie said, “As a party we will use the options in the constitution to elect our leaders.” He said ODM will endeavour to recognise the need to involve the people in all decision making. The elections will be held between July 1 and July 4.
