Gichugu MP Martha Karua took her presidential campaigns to the United States where she met with Kenyans and urged them to participate in reforming the country. Karua said impunity and corruption are chocking up almost all systems in the country.
She said corruption cartels thrive and escape the rule of law because they finance political parties during elections. Karua said the government is held hostage by the same corruption cartels and that it would be difficult to end corruption unless genuine change and reforms are achieved. “A government supported by cartels can never deal with corruption and impunity,” she said.
The legislator was invited to address an annual conference for the Kalenjins living in diaspora. The meeting known locally as
Gotab Gaawhich generally means unity of the local people. It was as held in Minnesota and was broadcast live on a vernacular radio station.
The Narc-Kenya  boss told the forum that she is aspiring for the presidency because she believes that real change will turn the country into a first word nation. “My political DNA is about social justice and the rule of law and that is what my leadership will seek to implement,” she said.
Some of those present questioned Karua’s role in the disputed 2007 presidential elections but she said that she only played the role of being president Kibaki’s agent. She denied that the election results were messed up at the KICC, Nairobi, in her presence.
She also dismissed as unworkable the political alliances based on tribes. The MP said Kenya needs systems which are able to equalize resources and tackle development while ensuring national cohesion and the rule of law.
Karua complained that the ongoing resettlement of IDPs i not transparent because some of those involved use corrupt means to buy land for the displaced.
