The high court has put on hold the swearing in ceremony of five Supreme Court judges due Monday following an application by the Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA Kenya) and five other women lobby groups. The groups claim that the nomination of the five judges by the judicial service commission did not reflect gender balance. High Court judge Justice Jeanne Gacheche issued the orders Friday. The case is listed for hearing on June 27. The five judges include Justice Philip Tunoi, Justice Jackton Ojwang, Justice Ibrahim Mohammed, Dr Smokin Wanjala and Ms Njoki Ndung'u. The president signed a gazette notice appointing the five on Thursday. |
