  3. If really Coast is part of Kenya, why is it that there is neither a national school nor a University? We have poor infrastructure, poor hospitals,no fresh water,no title deeds for 47 years of Uhuru,is this fair? The leaders should bare in mind that we r not happy about this.

It has been a system of ruling, that;divide them so that u may rule them easly, make them poor so that u may rule them easly, educate them NOT so that u may rule them easly. All these systems have been used in Coast so that we may stay the way we are now,as the way they say.I tell them that we r awake.'Na mjinga akierevuka mwerevu yuko mashakani'.

    1. This is ludicrous as a low leveled person being brain washed by some demagogues to believe that the Kenyan Coast and people in it are not Kenyans,Seemingly such type of psychopath learnt that,it's time for him and his group to turn unruly and pave way into others believing they dont have a nationality,What of the past ancestral belonging and their burial. It's true they have never engaged in active politics and nation building,The likes of Sharif Nassir,Ronald Ngala and his son Katana Ngala were bold,Now just a mere person and his six perons who are development aggressing think they should secceed instead of expanding for him to in the future carry out piracy and lawlessness in the Coast of Kenya.Hiyo ni danganya watu wa Mombasa kabisa, kwani sisi wa Lodwar tuta enda wapi,na kisumu je.It is internationally known that kenya has eight provinces and we all blame governance not to secceed. So they are cowards who never face reality but accept to be carried with pride of Mombasa raha.Kesho huzuni kahivyo they should not victimise the youth into acts of lawlessness because we all feel the same. And it's governance that brings the issue for the past five decades.Pamoja tushinde kama wakenya si kama wapwani.

  18. People studying revolutions understand that this is a great wave towards historical changes. This is how the quest for independence in the world against European hegemony started, starting with Ghana in the 50s on the black african side against the mighty British, and ending in the republic of South Africa in the 90s. The new wave have just started and it will trigger more and more seismic waves, the disatisfied and marginalised people of Eritrea are the first to succeed, the people of the Southern Sudan to come next, then most probably the people of the Niger Delta and most probably the people of the coastal region of Kenya. All the above cases have two things in common, marginalisation and arrogance of the oppressors. Hypocracy will take them no where, if they want to revert the NILE TREATY, then they must understand that its history unfolding. Its apparently clear that Kenya has treated coastal region defferently.

  25. For sure this is the time for the coast people to come together and fight through tooth and nail to free ourselves from the oppression of the so called Kenya. I do believe the kenya government is watching the turn of events for mombasa republic with anger but let me warn them this time round there is no going back and we have to get back what is rightfully ours. The kenya government has deliberately neglected the coast region for so long. Waswahili husema mgala muuwe lakini haki yake mpe so it is time for kenya to give us back what took from us 47 years back. Kenya always thought the coast people will be afraid but this is now history and i think we have what it takes to be a free republic after all. I kenya has been used to milk the golden goose for so long and it has benefited alot that's why it does not like the golden goose to be taken away but pole sana because we coast people want to also enjoy the services and the golden eggs you kenyans have been eating for all this time. Bravo coast people do not look behind we are all backing all the leaders of the Mombasa republic.

  36. The idea of having its own independent state is a basic and universal question but one has to be very sure of the history and advantage and disadvantage of getting independent.

Some countries are better with than alone like most islands attached to France. I thought if Haiti was attached to France, they wouldn't face such miserable life. There are many examples for this.

If eritrea was remain with ethiopia, its young generations wouldn't suffered in the Libyan desert and int he medtranean sea.
So the question is that is Mombasa raise such a request, first it is in its best interest to remain with the great Kenya.
I know many of you do not share my idea but I speak of a realist and while you are a simple separatist.
    Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  37. Separation is the only solution here, no need to continue living under opression. Yes you might argue that the area is crippled by drugs but who sells those drugs?the rich people from other parts who want to cripple us. If the government has done so much to fight mungiki, why not the same efforts to finish drug abuse at the coast? It is simple, no one cares about us and so let us manage our own resources and problems.period.

  38. Arabs descendants in coast are the members of the MRC, not the Mijikenda and the bantu communities in the coast. Arabs should understand that they came to coast and were not born there.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Interesting read the comments here, I've been following the MRC debate in the papers; quick question to everyone when has the Coast region been ruled by the indigenous people? The Arabs used it a s source of Ivory and Slaves, then the Portuguese, then the Arabs then the British have in a line going back almost 7 centuries been rulers of the Coast, did they have the indigenous tribes in mind? Secondly while there are Muslims at the Coast there are a lot of Christians with some of the oldest christian communities in Kenya located there; do they want a Islamic state? Thirdly as someone said who is a Coastarian? With all the intermarrying that has happened and is happening how do you determine a coastarian? Fourthly what about the people from the Coast living and working throughout Kenya? What rules should be applied to them? Very many people from the Coast who worked for the colonial government worked upcountry and married people from there. So how do you resolve that? Five the people of the Coast have to adapt to the way life has changed in Kenya, farming methods, family life, attitudes towards women and education, property ownership, economic activity they cannot in my opinion continue to be stuck in a way of life and attitudes that are pre-independence. Six the challenges of the Coast region are the same faced by the rest of Kenya: land issues, infrastructure issues (Moi Airport has been expanded, new ferries, planned bypasses) isn't that what is happening Nairobi? The port is being modernized and expanded (or is that a way to take away jobs from Wapwani?) I don't think there is a policy anywhere in the nation to give jobs specifically to people from that region, that is wrong for a nation of 40+ tribes. Seven at independence all land became CROWN land throughout the nation everyone has had to buy, steal or otherwise secure a title deed. There are squatters throughout the nation; not just at the Coast - its no excuse to grab land because you are from that region as has been and continues to be done in the coast. Eight due to slave trading people who lived at the coast lived at least of 10kms from the ocean in the hills and forests to avoid being captured by traders unless they lived in the villages under patronage of Arab chiefs or Arab appointed headmen of indigenous origin - after the British came and ended that the land along the coast had no owners did it?
Nine how are the "leaders" (I use that word loosely) of the MRC getting the people of coast to change with the times? How are they equipping them with the skills to live in this century to compete with people living in this century? Or are they telling them that the solution is to form a "Republic" where they will maintain their way of life? And in that "Republic" will it not just continue to be the Arab families that control the coast that will continue to hold the reigns of economic control? Which is the case now, the funding for the MRC - is the aim of the individuals and families currently funding them to liberate the "people" of the Coast or to firmly control the economic output of the coast without sharing it with the rest of the nation?
Ten as long as any group says their version of events is the right version without opening the books of history (through encouraging people to read, get an education) is hiding something - MRC is hiding something
Eleven - the port of Mombasa needs to be modernized, to continue to be relevant to the region. Revenue from the port should be plowed back into the port and region; however that doesn't mean that the people from the coast shouldn't work, whatever the future brings work, hard work and the reality of change is always going to be a part of the future people all over the world.
    Wapwani mskiye

Trust me....They r not prepared to secede...Most of the MRC leaders/members r illitrate who doesn't know the actual meaning of secession..Ari they've bn left squatters in their own land..Kwani it's only in coast that there are squatters? First, they should deal wid da issue of drugs thats rendering youths in those areas jobless..complaining they are no university in coast..Is that even an issue? No 1 is prohibited from attending any public university in kenya..N who owns most of em land in coast if it's not their leaders?? Instead of fighting for secession, they should b holding their leaders accountable coz they r the cause of their troubles...Y haven't they fought 4 their rights 4 all those years n what happens 2 those guyz who were born in coast n aint muslims? will they expell from coast once it gets it's "independence" which i dont c it coming in the near future

Elgon people went through, its not easy to tame the strip of coast out of the whole republic of Kenya. We never fought for independence, we never had any ambitions for studies,we are after the tourist and our children are dyeing from HIV due to over reliance of wazungus, take the recent hunger, we never had something and we had to ask relief food from the upcountry people to feed people in Kilifi, in Lamu, Tanariver and soo many. The insecurity is very prone as we are just adjacent to our neighbours Somali who are then the highest investors in our city Mombasa. Tell me, the warabu, and the Local people who is with upper hand. We are sending back this stripe of coastal to Asia and the oppressive we are experiencing in Saudia and other parts of Asia will be felt here. NO. NO. NO let ask the misgovernment to speed up our land ownership. But dare-not to do what your being told. 4) How will a port survive without trade from inland consumers?

      6) Do calls for cessesion favour tourism aN ECONOMIC pillar in the coastal economy?
      7) How will MRC rally its people to produce sufficient food for all ( holding question 2 in mind)?
8)How will you run hotels without support resources from mainland?
      9) Fresh waters that serve the coast run from the highlands of the main land...how will MRC control this vital resource....imagine dams being built half-harzadly and then drying up your fresh water supply)
      10) Uganda has oil and MRC is creating a hostile environment, then KPL from Mombasa becomes irrelevant and Busia becomes a refinery destination....more job losses don't you think!

LETS BE REALISTIC I WOULD ADVICE MRC TO TAKE CONTROL OF LOCAL LEADERSHIP AND USE THIS TO LEVERAGE FOR RESOURCES AND DEVELOPMENT THATS WHY WE ARE DEVOLVING AND DEVOLUTION AND CESSESION ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS.....LETS THINK BEFORE WE ACT...FOR THE SAKE OF COAST.....A CONCERNED COAST BORN RESIDENT

  64. these arabs are insane...they come all the way from oman...overthrow the Portuguese(who had earlier killed the indigenous coastal bantus n enslaved them)..the arabs were later kicked out by the british who colonise the land and later give independence and leave...IF MRC(READ STUPID ARAB DESCENDANTS) CANT LIVE AMONG US PEACEFULLY,LET THEM GO BACK TO OMAN....OTHERWISE KENYA WILL REMAIN AS ONE..IF THE NE SOMALIS DID NOT MAKE IT EVEN WITH SUPPORT OF SOMALIA GOVT...SLDF WAS WIPED OUT IN A WEEK....THESE GUYS ARE GOING NOWHERE...

  71. Whoever thinks Coastarians will remain part of Kenyans are dreaming, never make a mistake, we Coastarians have resolved to sacrifice for this cause after more than 40 years of OCCUPATION and NEGLECT from successive Kenyan Regimes. Those upcountry or Kenyans living at the Coast should watch out when commenting on our issues we Coastarians.Long live Pwani lomg live Uhuru wa Pwani struggle. And the Kenyan Government should be wise enough not to militarise the issue, othewise they should learn from Eritrea, South Sudan and Somaliland, to mention just a few regional examples.

  72. I am a KENYAN,from coast, born and raised. I want to speak on this big misconception that coast people don't own land. They do. the question should be who owns the land in coast? It is not the local mijikendas who do, it is the Arab descendants, because their fore fathers had the for site to STEAL ALL the land and turn the original owners (MIJIKENDAS) into squatters. These Arab descendants collect land fees from the home owners and in turn are supposed to pay a percentage of that to the government. Unfortunately many have not been paying the land property taxes therefore they owe millions to the government. The time is running out for them to-pay the taxes or loose the land, which will then be open for sell. Most of these Arab decadents, have not diversified, their sole income comes from the land and there is a lot of infighting between the many relatives because let's face it the Kenya Shilling does not go as far as it used to. So tell me, how do these Arab descendants, hold on to the lands and their only source of income? How do they keep their traditions and religion in a country full of Christians? How do they continue to oppress the locals and their own women? How do they keep the shambaboys, the houseboys, the housegirls (whom they rape and mistreat)? I will tell you how, by bringing up this nonsense of separation from KENYA. This is nothing but these Arabs trying to keep the status quo. So they don't pay taxes, so they can keep the indigenous people landless, uneducated and depended on them. Wake up people and smell the plot. read between the lines. educate yourselves and your children. read your history and interpret it don't just listen to what someone tells you.
