K-Rep earns two more years in Nyanza

By John Oyuke
The State has extended K-Rep Development Agency’s contract to implement Community Projects in Nyanza by another two years.
The deal to offer rural financial services for Southern Nyanza Community Development projects (SNCDP) has been extended at no extra cost.
The Community Development Project is a joint venture by the Government and International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). Planning, National Development and Vision 2030 PS Dr Edward Sambili said the decision to extend the contract was based on K-Rep’s impressive performance since 2007.
He said as per the 2007 contract, the organisation had established and institutionalised 15 Community Financial Service Associations (CFSAs), which were now operational at various stages of growth.
"We are confident that you are doing the right thing and trust that given much time, you will even do more," Sambili said in a statement addressed to K-Rep officials.
Speaking at his office during the signing of documents, Sambili urged K-Rep to invest heavily in training programmes.
He said the arm of the K-Rep group should focus more on ownership and sustainability instead of short-term goals.
The PS also emphasised the need for good leadership in mobilising communities, saying proper mobilisation of the community would enable a number of people to benefit economically if productive activities are targeted and implemented to increase their shareholding.
K-Rep Development Agency Managing Director Mr Aleke Dondo pledged to work towards building the capacity of CFSAs board members to enable them provide the much-needed stewardship in communities.
"We are also going to train clients on simple business management," he said.
The Agency held a meeting with State officials seeking to review their performance to achieve expected targets on November 23, 2009.
