We are probing Kalonzo over remarks, NCIC says

By MUTINDA MWANZIA
The National Cohesion and Integration Commission is investigating Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka over inciting remarks.
Commission chairman Mzalendo Kibunjia said his team is waiting for footage on the utterances before deciding on the course of action.
"We are also waiting for individuals to record statements with our office regarding the matter," said Dr Kibunjia.
He added that after proper investigations, the commission would make public its verdict on whether Kalonzo’s sentiments border on hate speech.
Last weekend, Mr Kalonzo and suspended Higher Education Minister William Ruto insisted the International Criminal Court (ICC) should go for people who called for mass action.
"I know ICC goes for people who bear the highest responsibilities. I expect the court to go for such people. I also expect the court will not apply double standards and I do not want to say more," said Kalonzo.
EXONERATED KIBAKI
Speaking at the African Inland Church Itigo, in Mosop, Nandi County, at the church’s 65th anniversary, Kalonzo, however, exonerated President Kibaki from blame saying he did not plot post-election violence.
Kalonzo said some politicians were out to ensure the political career of the Eldoret North MP sinks with the ICC investigations.
Yesterday, Kibunjia who addressed a news conference at the NCIC offices accused the Attorney General’s office of dilly-dallying in prosecuting cases forwarded to them by the commission.
"We have names that have been implicated in hate speech at the AG’s office and nothing has been done," said Kibunjia.
At the same time, Nyando MP Fred Outa says VP’s utterances that some people were manipulating investigations by the International Criminal Court were detrimental to peace.
Outa said if the commission failed to probe his complaints, he would go to court and have Kalonzo charged for being in breach of the Integration Act.
